Fluidized Bed Cooler Classifier

The Fluidized Bed Cooler Classifier (FKS) is a device designed for processing dry quartz sand. By cooling to processing temperature and intensive dust removal, excellent sand quality is achieved.

Key Advantages

  • Simple and reliable operation

  • Compact and space-saving

  • Energy-efficient/economical

Design

The Fluidized Bed Cooler Classifier is divided into individual sections separated by baffles. The baffles are arranged so that the sand flows alternately over and under the baffles, ensuring optimal contact between the sand and the heat exchangers installed in each section. Sand flow is realized via fluidization beds, while heat transfer is achieved using water-carrying heat exchanger bundles, which can be individually removed for maintenance purposes.

Operation

The sand to be classified and cooled is fed through a pre-fluidized bed, where heavier materials such as chromite sand are separated. The sand then enters the cooling and classification section. Here, the material is fluidized and made flowable using a fan. As the sand flows through the individual sections of the cooler-classifier, it is cooled using water-carrying heat exchanger packages. Dust is removed by separating fine particles through fluidization air, which are then extracted by an external filter system. The cooling water flows counter-currently through the heat exchangers, with flow controlled based on the sand outlet temperature, which is monitored by temperature sensors installed at the cooler outlet.
