ROTAREG®

Cold resin-bonded sands are typically well-suited for mechanical reclamation. Sand recovered using conventional single-stage mechanical reclamation systems can be reused to a large extent.

The proportion of reclaimed sand in molding sand can be further increased by utilizing a secondary reclamation stage. Additionally, sand quality can be significantly improved, for example, by reducing the loss on ignition. This measure enhances casting quality and minimizes the use of new sand.

For this purpose, particularly as a complement to existing single-stage systems, the secondary reclamation stage ROTAREG® was developed.

Higher casting quality! Less new sand! Lower disposal costs! Reduced transportation costs!

The ROTAREG® Reclamation Stage Consists of the Following Units

  • Centrifugal Cleaner

  • Pneumatic Conveyor

  • Fluidized Bed Classifier

Functionality of ROTAREG®

In the centrifugal cleaner, sand flowing in from above is accelerated outward by a rotor. Initially, the pockets in the stator ring are filled. Subsequently, the following sand flows over the material retained in the stator ring. The friction between sand grains breaks down and abrades the binder coatings. The design of the centrifugal cleaner ensures that the sand grains are subjected primarily to rubbing and minimal impact, reducing the destruction of sand grains and minimizing losses through dust formation. For durability, all parts in contact with the sand are made from highly wear-resistant materials.

Following the centrifugal cleaner, a pneumatic conveyor transports the treated sand to the fluidized bed classifier.

In the fluidized bed classifier, abraded binder particles and fines are separated from the sand by an upward airflow. This fraction is removed from the process via a connected dedusting system. At the finished sand outlet of the fluidized bed classifier, a switching mechanism is in place. This mechanism allows the treated material to either be directed for reuse or cycled back for further treatment within the ROTAREG®.
